Real Talk

Look, we can be straight with you. Headland is a unique and in many ways unlikely game. For the past three years (which is like 30 in mobile development years), we've been obsessed with making an action adventure game that we'd actually want to play on a mobile device. A game that is both fun and feels purposely built for the devices in our hands. A game that's accessible for all. A game with heart and a story to tell.

Pursuing this vision has led us through some challenging designs, life-questioning obstacles and several reboots. It turns out that making something new and questioning how things are done isn't easy. There's tradeoffs and dead ends and no one to look to for guidance.

And if that jungle of innovation wasn't hairy enough to cross then add to that, the prospect of attempting to sell a premium game with a narrative in the current mobile game landscape. A game that you can finish, with no microtransactions or retention mechanics.

Most people tell us that it can't be done. Not to any meaningful degree of success anyways— and maybe they're right.

But here we are on the cusp of attempting just that. It's probably a mixture of wilful ignorance and creative stubbornness that's carried us through to the end and it certainly hasn't been without compromise.

But maybe exactly because of that we're especially proud of the game we're now putting the finishing touches on. It's a unique game through and through and we can't wait for you guys to try it.

You can preorder it through headlandgame.com. We're hoping to release around the 15th of December and the free download will let you play through the first 20 minutes. The rest is unlocked through a single purchase and we hope you'll be enticed to invest in this very special mobile game.
